If you are a tenant and would like to remodel your kitchen, you would have to speak with your landlord and discuss the matter. The reason is that since you are a tenant , it’s the landlord who would have to pay for kitchen remodeling as a homeowner and it’s up to your landlord to decide if he/she wants to remodel the kitchen or not.
As a tenant you may not have the same freedom but it also doesn’t mean that you can’t get your wish. You would have to present good reasons for you landlord to agree to pay for remodeling. One good reason is that the kitchen is in poor shape i.e the cupboard doors are loose, lights are not as bright, loose flooring in the kitchen etc. You landlord may be willing to do a bit of remodeling. It may not be a drastic change but enough to keep the kitchen looking in good shape.
Since you are the tenant, you are advised not to pay for any kind of remodeling as you do not own the place. There are many landlords out there who would try to take advantage of their tenants by making them pay for their own repairs and remodeling. But as a tenant just say ‘no’.The only exception may be if you are involved in a rent to own contract otherwise it’s not your responsibility to pay for any remodeling or repairs.
If you have any experience in remodeling projects you could talk to your landlord that you could do repairs for a small fee or you can even ask your landlord to deduct that money from your rent. This way you get your rent reduced and your landlord gets to save some money too.Of course your landlord would have to pay for the supplies and tools needed for the project. If you would like to have the kitchen remodeled while you are a tenant, you should ask your landlord. The worse thing which he/she could say is no. If you do the remodeling project, there is a good chance that your landlord may okay the project and you could enjoy your newly remodeled kitchen for as long as it lasts.
