Anyone who has a carpet knows how easy it is to get stains on the carpet. The best way to clean a carpet is to clean the spills and dirt the moment they appear on the carpet. You don’t have to buy the expensive cleaners out there to make your carpet free of all kinds of stains.
You can clear the stains on the carpet by using common household ingredients such as vinegar, rubbing alcohol, lemon juice etc. The trick is knowing how to use these things to remove all kinds of stains.
* Pet Stains – You can use one teaspoon of household ammonia to half a cup of cold water. Put the mixture in a spray bottle and spray on the stain. Be sure not to spray on the back of the carpet. Once you have sprayed on the stain, blot it using paper towels and allow it to dry. Another option is to use a teaspoon of hand soap or dish washing detergent (which does not contain bleach or lanolin) to one quart of water. Lastly the best option to remove stains is water since it won’t let the stain stick and will help in the removal of the stain. Steam cleaners work best in this situation. If you use water , remember to let it dry completely.
* Beer and Wine Stains – Make a solution of one part white vinegar to one part water. Spray the mixture on the carpet. Allow the mixture to sit around ten to fifteen minutes. After that rub with a sponge in a cleaning motion. Rinse the carpet with warm water. Make a layer on the carpet of white paper towels. Leave them on until the carpet has dried completely.
* Ink Stains – Use isopropyl rubbing alcohol to remove stain. Pour some on white paper towels or white cloth and blot it in one direction on the stain so that it doesn’t spreads.
