Process of buying a house can be tiring and exhaustive. Now that you’re past that stage and are ready to move-in but wait, there are a lot more decisions to be made. Before you move in your new home,it is a wise idea that to tackle a major project now than later.Like if there is carpeting in the house and you don’t like the color or if you want laminate or hardwood floors in the house, this would be a good time to do it yourself or have it done.

If you don’t have financial constraints, you could install it yourself or have it done by professionals the type of flooring you like so that when it’s done, only thing that would need to be brought in would be the furniture. Cover the new flooring with mats, tarps or area rugs so when the movers come in,there won’t be dirt on your new floor.Following is a list of some projects that could save time and trouble.

1. Painting the Rooms:
Whether you decide to paint the whole house or just certain rooms, doing so before moving in would save you tremendous amount of trouble. The reason is that there won’t be any furniture to move, draperies to remove, taking everything out of the closets or removing every picture off the walls and so it would be easier to paint.Allow several days to paint before the movers arrive since this kind of project usually takes more time than you think. You could choose to paint a neutral color like beige or white and than add an accent color later.

2. Crown Moldings:
Everyone loves the look of crown moldings. Before you install moldings, prime and pre-paint strips before installation.Once installed, you may need to do some touch up at the joints and nail holes but that is a whole lot easier than standing on a ladder and trying to paint the moldings.

3. Closet Components and Systems:
Another handy tip before moving in is to make sure that you are satisfied with the closet system If you’re not or you are thinking about adding additional storage components, you might want to add them now than later. After you move in your new house, you would already have suitcases full of clothes that are ready to be hung, but if you decide to make additional storage space at that time,it will only cause more headache. By planning and doing this work ahead of time, you will enjoy saving your time and energy.

4. Existing Locks:
It’s always safe to change the locks before you move in as the previous owners might have given to keys neighbors, workmen or cleaning services.By changing locks, you will have peace of mind that your house keys are not in the hands of someone else.

5. Garage Storage:
If you new house doesn’t has shelves or storage components in the garage ,you might think about adding them before you move in. It doesn’t take long for a garage to turn into a storage room that has everything else except your car. If you already have sturdy shelves from your previous house, have them loaded at the last so that when the truck arrives at your new house, storage shelves would be the first thing to unload.
